How It Works
Change doesn't happen by understanding the problem. It happens by interrupting the pattern.
This isn't a program you follow. It's a process tailored to you — your history, your patterns, your goals. Here's what that looks like.
What we work on
People often come in with one problem, but there's usually a pattern underneath it. We look at both: what's happening now, and what's keeping it going.
Feeling Stuck
Understand what's holding you back.
When you keep going around in circles, struggle to move forward, or know something needs to change but aren't sure where to start, we look at what's getting in the way and work out a practical way forward.
- Feeling stuck in the same routines or situations
- Struggling to make decisions or move forward
- Knowing you want change but not knowing what that looks like
Confidence and Self-Belief
Stop getting in your own way.
Self-doubt and fear can keep you playing smaller than you need to. We look at the beliefs and patterns holding you back so you can recognise your strengths and make better use of your potential.
- Doubting your abilities or second-guessing yourself
- Holding back because you're afraid of getting it wrong
- Feeling capable of more but not following through
Stress and Emotional Patterns
Understand your reactions and change how you respond.
We all have patterns in how we think, feel and react. When those patterns aren't helping, we work on recognising what triggers them and finding more useful ways to respond.
- Feeling overwhelmed by everyday pressures
- Reacting in ways you later regret
- Getting caught in the same thoughts or emotional cycles
Relationships and Communication
Change the dynamics that keep repeating.
Whether it's with a partner, family member or colleague, recurring conflict often has something underneath it. We look at the needs, expectations and reactions involved, and how you can approach things differently.
- Finding it hard to express what you need
- Struggling to set boundaries
- Repeating the same conflicts or relationship patterns
Recognise yourself in any of these? Let's talk about what's going on.
Get in TouchWhat a session actually looks like
There's no script. Sessions are conversational, direct, and focused on what's happening for you right now — not a fixed curriculum. The first session is usually longer (up to two hours) and covers your history, recurring patterns, and what you want to be different. From there, each session builds on the last.
Start the conversation
You reach out and tell me what's going on. No intake forms, no automated booking — just a message.
Breakthrough Session
The recommended starting point. Up to two hours to map your history, identify the patterns, and set a clear direction. This is where the real work begins.
Ongoing sessions
50-minute sessions that build on each other. The pace is yours — some people work intensively over a few weeks, others spread sessions out over months.
Real change
Not a certificate of completion. A measurable shift in how you think, feel, and act — that holds outside the session.
Ready to take the first step? Reach out and tell me what's going on.
Get in TouchCoaching vs therapy — what's the difference?
Therapy — particularly psychotherapy — is a clinical treatment for mental health conditions. It focuses on processing past trauma and managing symptoms.
Coaching is not therapy. It's a forward-focused, goal-oriented process that works with your current patterns, beliefs, and behaviours to help you function better and move toward what you want.
The two can complement each other. Many people work with both a therapist and a coach — they serve different purposes. If you're unsure which is right for you, reach out and we can talk it through honestly.
One practical difference worth noting: because coaching works directly with present-state patterns rather than processing the past, many people find relief from stress, anxiety, and the general weight of daily difficulties in far fewer sessions than traditional therapy typically requires. That doesn't make it better — it makes it different. For a lot of people, it's simply a faster route to feeling like themselves again.
In Your Head is coaching, not psychotherapy or medical treatment. Sessions are not a substitute for professional mental health care.
Not sure if coaching is right for you? Get in touch and we'll talk it through honestly.
Ask a QuestionCommon questions
How long does it take to see results?
It depends on what you're working on and how long the pattern has been running. Some people notice a shift after a single session. Deeper behavioural change — the kind that holds — usually takes several sessions over weeks or months. I won't give you a number that sounds good but means nothing.
Do sessions happen online?
Yes. All sessions are online via video call. This makes it accessible regardless of where you are, and many people find it easier to open up from their own space.
What if I don't know exactly what I want to work on?
That's fine — and more common than you'd think. The Breakthrough Session is specifically designed to help you get clarity on what's actually going on and what you want to be different. You don't need to arrive with a clear goal.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential. The only exception would be a situation involving serious risk of harm — which I'd discuss with you directly if it ever arose.
How is this different from just talking to a friend?
A good friend listens. A coach listens differently — for the pattern underneath what you're saying, not just the content. The questions, the challenges, and the techniques used in a session are designed to create change, not just understanding.
Do you work with couples?
Yes. Couples coaching focuses on the dynamic between two people — the recurring patterns, unmet needs, and communication habits driving conflict. It's not mediation or couples therapy, but it can create significant shifts in how two people relate to each other.
